Course Content
Session 1: 10am – 12.15pm
PMAV – Prevention/Management of Aggression & Violence
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will develop the skills to:
- Identify types and triggers of aggression and violence in the workplace
- Understand relevant legal frameworks (SHWW Act 2005)
- Apply the PMAV risk assessment model
- Recognise the stages of the assault cycle
- Respond appropriately and professionally to aggressive behaviour
- Prioritise personal safety and de-escalation techniques
Methodology:
This is an interactive session combining discussion, scenario-based learning, role-play, and group exercises. We create a safe space for participants to engage with real-world examples and practical strategies.
Session 2: 1.30pm – 3.45pm
WASP – Wrongful Arrest Site Prevention
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will:
- Understand the legal definition and risks of wrongful arrest
- Learn how to establish reasonable suspicion
- Gain skills to manage suspected theft incidents with discretion
- Know when and how to involve law enforcement appropriately
- Develop de-escalation techniques to prevent escalation
Methodology:
The session uses a blend of trainer-led input, group discussion, video scenarios, and case studies. There’s a strong emphasis on reflective practice and staff confidence-building.
