In addition to this, HAI has recently engaged with third level institution careers offices nationwide, and have sought advise from them on what HAI and employers in the our industry can do to attract students and soon-to-be graduates to career opportunities in the Built Environment.
From these meetings we have compiled the following checklist for employees to consider:
Employer Checklist:
Universities nationwide regularly engage with employers across all industries via their Careers Offices and faculties (such as Civil Engineering, Construction Studies, and Architecture who would have close links to our industry) working with them to promote career opportunities through initiatives such as “Meet the Employer” presentations, work placement programmes, website profiles, and email communications. Contact your local university today to get your organisation involved.
In recent weeks HAI attended a number of local and national Careers Fairs for 2nd and 3rd level students, graduates and jobseekers.
Worldskills Live: The national event took place over three days in mid-September in the RDS Simmonscourt. It successfully promoted apprenticeships, traineeships and other careers opportunities in Ireland. The event saw over 16,000 students meeting employers and industry experts to learn more about trades and professional careers. HAI, along with employers and managers from Murdocks Builders Merchants and the Sanbra Fyffe Group.
UL Autumn Careers Fair: HAI was joined by the team from McMahons Builders Providers at September’s University of Limerick Careers Fair, where students, whether in 1st – 3rd year looking for career ideas or internships, or final year students were seeking advice on what to do next in their career.
UCD Science, Engineering and Technology Careers Fair: The UCD Careers Fair was another highly successful day, with students studying Engineering, Construction Studies, and even Data Analysis, asking about career opportunities in the industry.
MTU Careers Fair (Cork): HAI and Hardware Jobs were joined by Cork Builders Providers to talk to students at the MTU Careers Fair, with many engineering and business students expressing interest in career opportunities relating to the sector. Cork Builders Providers were delighted to have a chance to share their new opportunities in their new Solar Panel PV department with students and graduates alike.
