July 31, 2017Hardware Association Ireland is concerned with shortages in the supply of OSB and recently asked Medite Smartply to comment on this matter. This is their response:
“Throughout the course of 2017 demand for OSB, throughout Europe, has been at unprecedented levels. The industry has been under intense pressure to keep up with these new levels of consumption and as a consequence lead times are now running at extended periods across all markets. This is an industry wide problem and not one that is solely related to Medite Smartply.
Currently our own lead times have extended to unacceptable levels, order in-take remains ahead of capacity and service issues have been the direct result. This is an unsustainable situation, therefore as a result a volume allocation has been put in place for our customers. A restricted supply from competitor mills supplying the Irish market has been apparent for some time now.
We will be constantly reviewing this situation and our current six week lead time will remain in place until further notice.
We fully recognise this is not an ideal situation, however we trust that you can understand the reasons for these actions and that it allows for the market to plan its activities with more certainty.”
